This home goods giant is closing a Lexington location. Find out where and why.

Home goods giant Bed, Bath & Beyond has announced 63 stores, including one in Lexington, will close by the end of the year, according to a report in USA Today.

The New Jersey based retailer announced in July that over the next two years it would close 200 locations across the country, a little more than 20 percent of its stores.

The company said in July that sales were down nearly 50 percent due to stores shutting down in March, April and May for the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday, the company released the first 63 stores that will close, according to USA Today. The only Kentucky location scheduled for closure is the South Park location on Nicholasville Road, according to the newspaper’s list.

Burlington, a discount retailer, recently opened its second location in South Park next to the soon-to-close home goods retailer.

The other Lexington Bed, Bath & Beyond location is in Hamburg on Sir Barton Way.

When the Nicholasville Road location will close is not known. Officials with the retailer did not immediately return an email asking for comment.

As of May 30, the company had a total of 1,478 stores, including 955 Bed Bath & Beyond stores across the country. It also operates 262 stores under the names of World Market, Cost Plus World Market or Cost Plus, 127 buybuy BABY stores, 81 stores under the names Christmas Tree Shops, Christmas Tree Shops andThat! or andThat!, and 53 stores under the names Harmon, Harmon Face Values or Face Values.
