The wait is over: Officials announce grand opening date for first Lexington Publix
Lexington’s first Publix Super Market will open March 5, officials confirmed Monday.
The Florida-based supermarket chain announced the first Lexington Publix Super Market at 1952 Stockton Way in Citation Point will open 7 a.m. on March 5.
Publix at Citation Point will feature a 46,791-square-foot grocery store and an adjacent liquor store that will offer beer, wine and spirits.
“We are excited to open our first location in Lexington, KY,” Jared Glover, Publix media relations manager, said in a Monday news release. “We look forward to delivering Publix’s legendary service and being active members in this great community.”
The store has earned national attention for many of its offerings, including a sit-down deli, a large grab-and-go selection and lots of prepared food options.
A Florida native who toured Publix’s first store in Kentucky last year described to Herald-Leader readers its cult-like following and what separates the store from other grocer rivals.
Publix announced its first Lexington location in March 2023. Publix is also opening a Lexington store in the Fountains of Palomar shopping center at Harrodsburg Road and Man o’ War.
Another store is expected to be announced in Nicholasville soon.
