Lexington’s newest Kroger Marketplace set to open next month

The Kroger along Newtown Pike will open its doors to shoppers sooner than expected.

The marketplace store, the third of its kind in Lexington, is scheduled to host a grand opening the morning of Aug. 14, according to a news release from the Kroger Co. Louisville Division. It’s the third of its kind in Lexington.

The 123,000-square-foot store will have an 18-pump gas station out front and drive-thru pharmacy. A Little Clinic is part of the store, as is a liquor store, cheese shop, sushi bar and Starbucks. The store will have have expansive departments for produce, home goods and clothing.

“Kroger has been part of the bluegrass landscape for nearly a century, and this new Marketplace represents our continued commitment to growing with Kentucky,” said Kroger Louisville Division President Jake Cannon in the release. “This $42 million investment brings jobs, innovation and expanded services to Lexington, strengthening our role as a partner in the region’s long-term economic growth.”

Construction on the store began in August 2024.

Kroger Marketplace stores are “larger format,” Corporate Affairs Manager Jessica Sharp told the Herald-Leader last week. They’re generally more than 120,000 square feet and add home goods and clothing sections to the department lineup.

Kroger has marketplace locations in Lexington at Beaumont Centre Circle and on Richmond Road. A proposal for a fourth marketplace on Winchester Road was filed on May 5 by the same developer behind the Newtown Pike location.
