A new-to-Kentucky menswear brand known for clothing designed for athletic builds, including professional athletes, has opened a location in one of Lexington’s most popular shopping areas.

State & Liberty Clothing Co. is open in Lexington’s Fritz Farm at 122 Marion St., Suite 110, occupying the space formerly held by Morton James, a women’s clothing boutique that moved to East Main Street.

A growing retail store with more than 40 locations across the country and Canada, State & Liberty focuses on well-fitting and comfortable clothing made from wrinkle-resistant performance fabrics. Its machine washable dress shirts and pants, blazers and suits are popular with professional athletes in many sports including the NFL, NHL and MLB.

The Lexington store is located next to college sportswear store Alumni Hall and Anthony Vince’ Nail Spa.

“Opening our first store in Kentucky is a milestone we’re excited about, and there’s no better city than Lexington to do so,” said CEO Lee Moffie, who co-founded State & Liberty in 2015. “It’s a city on the rise that’s energetic, ambitious and full of young professionals who want to look good without sacrificing comfort. We can’t wait to be a part of the community.”

The Lexington store has an atmosphere of “laid-back luxury,” its clothing paired with a relaxed, social vibe with music, sitting areas and TVs. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can book a fitting with a sizing specialist online. The store also has wedding party options.

There are now more than 60 street-level shops, 12 restaurants, a luxury apartment community and Whole Foods grocery at the upscale shopping center that dropped The Summit from its name in 2025, eight years after opening at the corner of Man o’ War Boulevard and Nicholasville Road. In March, Fritz Farm announced a $14.1 million expansion adding more than 30,000 square feet of new retail and dining space.

With more planned store openings in 2026, State & Liberty says it wanted to solve a common frustration for athletic men: finding well-fitting dress shirts that are larger in the shoulders, chest and arms but tapered at the waist. The store says its clothing combines the performance of moisture-wicking, wrinkle-resistant fabrics with a tailored, professional look.

“We are passionate about providing an in-store experience better than any place you’ll find, even on our worst day,” said Moffie. “Our teams bring energy, knowledge and a connection to every customer interaction and we’re thrilled to bring that experience to the Lexington community.”
