Publix expands across Kentucky with new grocery store plans: A look at locations

The first Publix grocery store opened in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, with the chain eventually expanding to 1,435 locations across the Southeast.

After 94 years, Publix finally found its way to the Bluegrass, opening in Louisville in 2024.

Kentucky now has six Publix locations with more on the way, including a new Nicholasville location announced on May 26, the Lexington Herald-Leader previously reported.

Here’s a rundown of where you can find Publix stores in the Lexington area and across Kentucky.

Publix stores open in Lexington

• Publix at Citation Point off of Georgetown Road was the first location to come to Lexington in March 2025, according to Publix.
• A newer location, Publix at The Fountains at Palomar, on the Northwest corner of Man o’ War Boulevard and Harrodsburg Road, followed shortly after.

Publix stores coming soon to the Lexington area

• Off of Tates Creek Road, near Chevy Chase, Publix at Romany was announced, making it the third Publix to be opened in Lexington. The opening date has not been announced.

Publix in Central Kentucky

• A bit west of Lexington in Elizabethtown, Publix at The Shops at Pear Orchard, on the corner of Pear Orchard Road and Ring Road, is set to open between July and September of this year.
• In Georgetown, Publix at Elkhorn Village Center off of Frankfort Road was announced to open in 2027.

South of Lexington, new locations have been announced in Somerset, Richmond and Nicholasville:

• In Somerset, Publix will be on the corner of Jefferson Drive and Highway 27. No opening date has been announced.
• In Richmond, Publix at The Farms at Barnes Mill on Goggins Lane and Barnes Mill Road. No opening date has been announced.
• The new Nicholasville location will be on the corner of Nicholasville Road and Brannon Road, the store will be just across from the Brannon Crossing shopping center. No opening date has been announced.
• In Winchester, Publix at Winchester Village is set to open on the corner of Colby Road and Bypass Road. No opening date has been announced.
• Publix at The Shops at Woodford Farm in Versailles was announced to be opened on the corner of Lexington Road and Governors Way, but no opening date was announced.

Publix stores in Northern Kentucky

• Northern Kentucky is home to one open Publix in Walton. Publix at Triple Crown Shopping Center on the corner of Triple Crown Boulevard and Rochwood Road.
• In addition to the Walton location, Northern Kentucky has three locations opening in 2026: Publix at Cold Spring Pointe in Cold Spring, Publix at Farmview Commons in Florence and Publix at Independence on Jenkins Drive. The Cold Pointe location will open June 17.
• One planned location in Hebron, Publix at Gateway Commons, has not announced an opening date.

Publix stores in the Louisville area

• The Terra Crossing Shopping Center in Louisville is home to the state’s first Publix after opening in January 2024.
• Since then, there have been two more Publix stores opened for a total of three locations serving the city. Publix at Marshall Commons located on Ballardville Road and Publix at Flat Rock on Flat Rock Road opened in September 2025.
• Two more locations in the Louisville area have been announced at Prospect Point off of Highway 42 and Blankenbaker Plaza off of Shelbyville Road. No opening dates have been released.

Publix stores in western Kentucky

• Two Owensboro Publix locations are set to open before the end of 2027. Publix at Gateway Commons on Hayden Road is slated to open by the end of June, according to Publix. Publix at Yellow Banks Square off W Parrish Avenue is set to open in 2027.
• Bowling Green has two announced Publix locations. Publix at Nashville Road, located on the corner of Nashville Road and Dillard Road will open in 2027, and Publix at Campbell Commons, which does not yet have an opening date.
