Lexington is getting another entrant in the burger and shake battle. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is coming to Hamburg, in front of Cabela’s and near Costco.

Freddy’s franchisee Todd Whitchurch said in a statement that they hope to open by the end of the year, most likely in December.

“We describe it as a good mix between a full-service restaurant and a fast-food place,” Whitchurch said. “Menu items are cooked to order, and include lean ground beef steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs, and our signature shoestring fries, as well as dessert treats prepared with a choice of chocolate or vanilla frozen custard that is churned fresh several times throughout the day.”

Freddy’s menu offers seasonal items, such as the hatch green chile steakburger or hot dog. Another big seller: the limited-time-only funnel cake sundae.

Freddy’s joins a growing list of specialty burger and shake places opening around the city, including a Shake Shake announced for The Summit at Fritz Farm next year, a second BurgerFi coming to Euclid Avenue and Rose Street, a second Steak ’n’ Shake opening in a University of Kentucky dorm, not to mention the recently opened Jax Burgers & Brews at Lexington Green, and a host of existing burger joints such as Parkette Drive-in, JDI Grill & Tavern, Lexington Diner, Lynagh’s, BRU Burger Bar and many more.

Also coming: a fifth Zaxby’s Chicken Fingers & Buffalo Wings. The newest one will be off South Broadway and is expected to open in October. Last year, a Zaxby’s opened on Redding Road; other locations are on Sharkey Way, on New Circle Road and on Sand Lake Drive.
