‘I’ve made it.’ 103-year-old Kentucky woman recovers from coronavirus, reports say

A 103-year-old woman in Hopkins County has beaten the odds and recovered from the coronavirus, according to multiple reports.

Virginia Harris, a Madisonville resident, was diagnosed with COVID-19 in mid-March, according to WFIE, which covers Owensboro and other areas. She had an “aggressive fever and nausea,” according to the report, but no respiratory symptoms.

“I was so sick, I thought I was going to die,” Harris told WFIE. “But the good Lord took care of me, everybody was praying for me, and it just wasn’t my time.”

Grandson Adam Harris, a local school high school principal, said, “It was scary,” according to the Madisonville Messenger.

Virginia Harris was described as the family “backbone.”

She makes everyone in the room feel like they’re the only person,” Virginia’s granddaughter, Christine Peyton, told WFIE.

“She is very involved with our family,” said her son, Doug Harris, according to TriStateHomepage.com.

Virginia lives at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation in Madisonville, according to TriStateHomepage. Her family has been keeping in touch with her via video calls or through the window of the nursing and rehabilitation center, according to the report.

Ridgewood Terrace had 12 resident cases and three deaths as of Friday. Five staff members had also tested positive.

Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield Jr. told the Madisonville Messenger that “Harris was born before the 1918 “Spanish flu” pandemic. Now she’s survived two of them.”
