Elton John postpones remainder of farewell tour, including Lexington concert

Elton John fans in Lexington will have to temporarily say “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” as the star singer has postponed his Lexington show, he announced Thursday.

John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour was scheduled to make a stop at Rupp Arena June 5, but the coronavirus pandemic has forced the show to be postponed, according to Rogers and Cowan, an entertainment PR agency.

“This tough decision has been made with the continued safety and well-being of his fans at a time when health services are under increased pressure and with the concern that these gatherings continue to risk accelerating the spread of the coronavirus,” the agency said in a statement.

New show date information will be announced soon, the agency said, and the original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performance.

The postponement applies to all of John’s shows between May 22 and July 8, which were the remaining shows on the tour.

“Elton promises to continue performing live for all his dedicated fans around the world again and thanks you for your endless support,” the agency said in a statement.

John had previously postponed all of his concerts from March 26 to May 2 due to the coronavirus. He originally announced his show at Rupp Arena in October.
