Help shape Lexington’s future at free 250Lex event at The Burl
Lexington’s celebration of its 250-year history will turn its eyes to the future next week.
As part of the 250Lex year-long festivities around Lexington’s founding, Commerce Lexington, along with the Blue Grass Community Foundation 365 and the Lexington Urban League Young Professionals will host the 250Lex Forward Bash on Tuesday at the Burl.
From 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, young professionals, and those young at heart, can come celebrate Lexington’s history and help determine its future.
The free event will include food, music and games, all to celebrate Lexington’s 250th anniversary, said Tyra Harbut, director of leadership development at Commerce Lexington and executive director of Leadership Central Kentucky. The event will also feature music from DJ Forerunner and the Bedford Band.
Those interested in attending will have a chance to shape the future of Lexington, organizers said. Attendees will be asked to give their opinion on what Lexington needs to focus on during the next 250 years.
“Those who have registered in advance of the event have already answered 1-2 questions for us giving their opinions, but anyone that walks up, we are going to ask for their opinion as well by scanning our QR code,” Harbut said. “The information from the attendees will then be gathered and shared with the sponsors of the event and used for future event planning.”
The event is free but requires registration, which includes food, games and music, and one drink ticket, Harbut said.
The event is designed to not only allow young professionals to network with one another, but to help the city plan what its future will look like, Mayor Linda Gorton said.
“It’s exciting to celebrate Lexington’s next generation of leaders,” she said. “Throughout our anniversary year, we have been looking back at our community’s history. It’s also important to look ahead, and this event is an opportunity to do that.”
Registration is available online at 250Lex.com or on Commerce Lexington’s website.
