Woman dies hours after 3-vehicle crash that sent three others to a hospital in Lexington
A serious collision involving multiple vehicles left one person dead and three others injured, according to the Lexington Police Department and Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
The collision happened on the outer loop of New Circle Road just past Georgetown Road inside the construction zone. Lexington police said it involved three vehicles, including two construction vehicles, and four people were hurt.
A driver had life-threatening injuries while three pedestrians had non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Dillan Taylor. All of the victims were transported to a hospital.
The driver died hours after the wreck. The coroner’s office identified her as Ashley Leath, 39.
Leath was declared dead at 5:33 p.m. Monday from blunt trauma injuries to the head and torso, according to the coroner’s office. Her manner of death was labeled as an accident.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
The farthest right lane of the outer loop Georgetown Road and Leestown Road was blocked while officials investigated the scene. The traffic management center said the road reopened just after 2:30 p.m.
The crash was the first of two fatal collisions on New Circle Road Monday. The second happened on the eastern side of town near Liberty Road and left three people dead.
