3 people killed in fiery three-vehicle crash on New Circle Road in Lexington

Three people were killed in a three-vehicle collision on New Circle Road in Lexington on Monday, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. on New Circle Road between Liberty Road and Trade Center Drive near Family Circle, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. Lexington Fire Battalion Chief Derek Roberts said a U-Haul truck and a construction van collided and the van caught on fire.

There were two people in the truck and one person in the van. Roberts said all the occupants were declared dead on the scene.

The victims in the truck were identified late Monday as William Kelly Curtin, 47, of Lexington, and Emma Hayden, 55, of Lexington. Curtin was driving the truck.

The van driver was identified as Oleksandr Tyshko, 48, of Nicholasville.

A third vehicle was involved in the wreck and had minor damage, according to the Lexington Police Department. The cause of the collision was not immediately available.

The city’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.

It’s the first crash with three or more deaths in Fayette County since June 2021, when six people were killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 75, according to Kentucky State Police crash data.

New Circle Road was shut down in both directions between Winchester Road and Liberty Road while investigators processed the scene. The traffic management center reported the road had reopened just after 3 p.m.

It was the second major collision on New Circle Road on Monday morning. The first happened a few hours earlier in a construction zone on New Circle Road near Georgetown Road, and four people were sent to a hospital.
