Kentucky State Police have released the identity of the trooper who was seriously injured in the first of a series of shootings in Lexington on Sunday.

The officer, Jude Remilien, is originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and has worked with Post 12 of the agency for almost three years.

Remilien was shot Sunday by Guy House, 47, during a traffic stop on Terminal Drive at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington. State police said Wednesday remains hospitalized and is stable.

Good Samaritans provided first aid to Remilien until emergency medical service personnel arrived on the scene. Sudduth said the efforts of the Samaritans made a difference in the trooper’s outcome.

“While we cannot identify them right now, we certainly want to express our most sincere appreciation for their actions,” Sudduth said Monday.

Remilien initially tried to pull over House after officers received a Flock alert — a system that notifies police when a wanted person’s vehicle is flagged on the road — near Versailles Road.

Sudduth said House had an active arrest warrant, but the details of the warrant have not been made public as of Wednesday morning.

House stole a car on Belleau Wood Drive after leaving the airport and shot four more people, two fatally, at Richmond Road Baptist Church. He was shot and killed by Lexington police officers at the church.

Remilien enrolled in the state police training academy on June 5, 2022, and graduated early through the Law Enforcement Accelerated Program. The state police training academy typically lasts 24 weeks, but LEAP participants complete the training in 13 weeks.

To qualify for the program, a candidate must have been a full-time, certified police officer in Kentucky for at least two years.

Remilien was assigned to Post 12 Frankfort in August 2022 after completing the program.

“We welcome Trooper Remilien to Post 12 and feel he will be a great asset to the communities he serves,” former Post 12 Capt. Todd Kidd previously told the State Journal.

Remilien has also worked for the Versailles Police Department. In June 2020, he was awarded a commendation for his efforts arresting a murder suspect from Lexington suspected of killing two people in Elizabethtown.

Remilien walked past the suspect at a Kroger store in Woodford County and recognized him. He and another officer arrested Reed after a short foot pursuit.
