Driver critically injured after crashing into New Circle Road bridge support

A driver was critically injured after crashing into a New Circle Road bridge support structure on Thursday, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Parkers Mill Road at the New Circle Road overpass. Lexington police Lt. Steven Wiggins said the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, crashed into the bridge support and needed to be extracted from the vehicle by the Lexington Fire Department.

The driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, Wiggins said. It’s unknown what caused the collision.

Parkers Mill Road is blocked off between Lane Allen Road and Man o’ War Boulevard while police investigate the collision, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. It’s unknown how long the road will be blocked off.

It’s the second serious collision in Lexington in as many days. On Wednesday, 30-year-old Dominga Gonzalez died and another person was seriously hurt in a rollover crash on Winchester Road.
