Here’s where to go in Lexington for the best view of 4th of July fireworks
The Fourth of July has its staples: barbecue, red white and blue, and of course, fireworks.
The City of Lexington has been putting on a fireworks show for over 30 years, according to previous Herald-Leader reporting.
This year, fireworks will be set off at 10 p.m. from the R.J. Corman rail yard off of the corner of Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way.
Where to watch the fireworks
Gatton Park on the Town Branch will give people a front and center view of the fireworks. The park will have all-day activities starting at 11 a.m. and will end when the firework show concludes at 10:30 p.m.
Each year, the University of Kentucky opens the top floor of Cornerstone Parking Garage for UK parking pass holders to watch the fireworks from the parking deck. All lights will be turned off on the top floor and people are welcome to bring beach chairs or towels to set up their viewing spot.
During their Fourth of July parking lot party, Manchester Music Hall welcomes people to watch the fireworks from their lot. The parking lot party starts at 6 p.m. and ends when the firework show ends. Manchester Music Hall backs up to the R.J. Corman rail yard, making it a location for those who want to be up close for the show.
How to stay safe during fireworks shows on the Fourth
During the Fourth of July festivities and fun, safety is also a priority. Of all firework related injuries reported in 2025, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, 22% were injuries to the head, face and ears.
The CPSC issued tips to stay safe on the Fourth:
- Do not allow children to play with or ignite fireworks or sparklers.
- Do not re-light or pickup fireworks that did not fully ignite.
- Do not use fireworks while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Keep a garden hose or a bucket of water nearby in case of an emergency.
- Light fireworks one at a time and move away quickly.
Pets can panic during fireworks: How to keep them safe
In addition to keeping yourself and the people around you safe, it is important to keep your pets safe during all firework shows. The Kentucky Humane Society said animals can get scared and easily run away out of panic, even if they are generally calm.
Pet owners should keep their animals inside and keep identification tags and collars on their pets even when inside in the event that the animals run outside.
