It’s time to stock up on food for the Fourth of July barbecue, including snacks and anything else you may need on the day when everyone sports their red, white and blue.

What if you forget something? Will stores be open?

I

This year, many agencies and businesses will observe the Fourth of July on Friday, July 3, since the 4th falls on a weekend. One of the original four federal holidays, the observance of Fourth of July comes with the closure of banks, post offices and all other federal offices.

Some grocery stores, such as Costco Wholesale, will be closed on July Fourth, but remain open on July 3. Others, such as Meijer and Walmart, will be open during their regular hours on the holiday.

Many stores will not be fully closed, but will operate on a modified schedule. We’ve called stores around Lexington asking about their Fourth of July hours so you don’t have to. Here’s what we found.
