The family involved in a serious July 4 boat collision in Central Kentucky has hired an attorney to investigate the wreck.
The crash happened on Herrington Lake in Mercer County. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife said Cody Casey, 34, of Harrodsburg, was driving a wake boat and Alex Svintozelskiy, 58, of Nicholasville, was driving a pontoon boat when the two boats collided for an unknown reason.
The crash sent four people to a hospital and ejected Nazar Svintozelskiy, 25, of Nicholasville into the water. Nazar Svintozelskiy was found dead two days later by a search and rescue team in 184 feet of water, according to the Mercer County Fire District.
Peterson Law and Whiteford Taylor & Preston have been hired by Nazar Svintozelskiy’s family to independently investigate the crash, according to a news release from Peterson Law. Anyone with information or footage related to the crash is encouraged to contact Peterson Law at 859-469-6390.
“The family is sincerely appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from the community,” Justin Peterson, founding partner of Peterson Law, said in the news release. “I am also impressed by the number of witnesses who have come forward with useful and relevant information.”
“We will continue to investigate until those at fault are held accountable.”
Alex Svintozelskiy was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital with serious injuries, while three others were transported to Danville for their injuries. Peterson Law’s news release says Alex Svintozelskiy remains in critical condition and is currently unresponsive.
A GoFundMe fundraiser created for the Svintozelskiy family has raised more than $100,000 since the collision. Other members of the Svintozelskiy family were also seriously injured, according to Peterson Law.
The fish and wildlife department also is investigating the collision. No charges have been filed against Casey as of Tuesday morning, according to Kentucky’s online state court database.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the fish and wildlife department at 1-800-252-5378.
