Two more Fayette County jail inmates test positive for COVID-19

Two more Fayette County Detention Center inmates have been confirmed to have COVID-19, bringing the jail’s total number of cases up to three, according to the Lexington Division of Community Corrections.

The test results for the two new positive cases came back Wednesday, according to a release from the division. The inmates both started showing signs of the illness and were tested on Monday.

The inmates were put in medical isolation, according to the release. Other inmates in the unit where the infected inmates been housed have been isolated from the rest of the jail population.

Multiple corrections officers in the jail have also been tested and are being isolated at home until they get their test results, according to the release.

The jail’s first confirmed COVID-19 case was announced Tuesday night. That inmate also showed symptoms and was tested Monday, according to the jail. The jail is working with the health department to continue testing and reduce risk to other inmates, officers and staff.
