Lexington Fire Department responds to second house fire in a day

The Lexington Fire Department responded to the city’s second house fire of the day Wednesday morning.

The fire happened at a home on Addison Avenue near Red Mile at about10:30 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Kevin Austin with LFD. When firefighters arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from the backside of the home.

Nobody was home when the fire happened and there were no injuries, Austin said. It’s unknown what sparked the fire and it’s under investigation.

The house suffered some damage from the fire but it won’t be a total loss, according to Austin.

“The rear of the house sustained pretty extensive fire and smoke damage, the front of the house is okay,” Austin said. “It will not be live-able tonight.”

The first fire happened around 7 a.m. at a home on Steamboat Road. Occupants were home when that fire started but they were uninjured. The house suffered damage and will need to undergo repairs, according to the fire department.
