Juvenile hit by a car in front of a Lexington middle school, police say
A juvenile was hit by a car near a Lexington middle school Monday afternoon, according to the Lexington Police Department.
The collision happened around 4:05 p.m. near Edythe Jones Hayes Middle School on Richardson Place. Lexington police Lt. Joe Anderson said the juvenile was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Dia Davidson-Smith, a spokesperson for Fayette County Public Schools, said the juvenile had scrapes and bruises from hitting the road.
Davidson-Smith confirmed the minor was a student at the school.
The driver was a grandparent picking up another child at the school, according to Davidson-Smith. Anderson said the driver is not expected to face any charges.
The incident was still under investigation Tuesday.
It’s the second confirmed pedestrian-vehicle incident outside a Lexington school in the past week. On Friday, two kindergarten students and a parent were hit by a car near Harrison Elementary School. The three were heading to the school when the collision occurred and one of the children suffered minor injuries.
