Heads up: Lane closures on busy downtown Lexington street will start Monday
One of Lexington’s busiest downtown streets will have lane closures starting Monday, Dec. 9., so the city can install speed tables to slow traffic.
The lane closure on West High Street from Merino Street to Madison Place will be for 24 hours a day until Friday, Dec. 20, city officials said.
The right lane will be closed for approximately one week. When that lane reopens, the left lane will be closed.
Additionally, Manchester Street at West High Street will be closed during this project. Manchester Street and the Central Bank Center garage can be accessed from Oliver Lewis Way.
The lane closure is necessary to install speed tables on the one-way street. Speed tables are flatter than speed bumps but still require motorists to slow down.
Two speed tables have been installed near Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena.
The area of West High Street has seen a lot of accidents in recent years, particularly in the area of Merino and Madison Place.
