Pedestrian hit, killed on Liberty Road in Lexington. Driver charged with DUI
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Lexington Tuesday night, and the driver was charged with DUI, according to the Lexington Police Department.
The collision happened just before 11 p.m. near Liberty Road and Liberty Hill Drive, which is near the Fayette County Public Schools bus garage. Lexington police Lt. Dillan Taylor said a man was hit by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the man’s identity after immediate family members are notified.
Bryce Daniel, 35, was arrested at the scene and was charged with DUI, according to police. Daniel’s arrest citation says he had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled like alcohol.
Daniel took field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. Court documents say a blood test is pending.
Taylor didn’t say what caused the crash. The Lexington police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash.
The road was shut down while officials investigated the scene, but it has since reopened.
Daniel is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Fayette District Court Thursday.
This is Daniel’s second time being charged with a DUI. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to DUI and possessing an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 15 hours of community service and fined $250, according to court records.
This is also the second fatal DUI crash in Lexington in three days. On Sunday, 75-year-old Linda Johnson died at a hospital after being involved in a collision near Man o’ War Boulevard. The other driver involved, 65-year-old Stephen Barber, was charged with DUI.
