Lexington Parking Authority's Food for Fines program receives more than 900 cans of food so far

The Lexington Parking Authority's Food for Fines program so far has received more than 900 cans of food covering more than 90 meter citations.

The program, which started Nov. 17 and lasts until Dec. 19, allows citizens to clear their parking records and help out those in need with canned goods that will be donated to God's Pantry Food Bank.

Citizens can take 10 cans of food to the Lexpark office at 122 North Broadway to pay for any meter citation. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Customers with multiple meter citations may bring in 10 cans for each one, including those that are past due.

Canned goods should be at least 14 to 15 ounces, and damaged or expired goods will not be accepted.
