Fatal crash shuts down interstate in Frankfort for two hours
Westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Frankfort at the 58 mile marker were closed for several hours Wednesday following a fatal crash, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday near the U.S. 60 exit, the traffic management said. A vehicle got on the interstate using the wrong ramp and then crashed into two vehicles, WKYT reported. The driver in the wrong-way vehicle died.
According to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, the rollover crash led to a vehicle catching fire.
The victim’s name has not been released.
All traffic was diverted seven miles away at the Midway exit. The road was re-opened at about 4 p.m., according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
It’s the second fatal crash in the Frankfort portion of I-64 in the last two weeks. On Feb. 18, a Berea woman and Indiana man died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer.
