Two roads that were blocked in Grant County by a train derailment have since reopened, Kentucky Sate Police said.

State Sen. Matt Nunn, R-Sadieville, said in a release that a train derailed in Scott County Thursday night.

Another train had to stop as a result, blocking the entrance to Sherman Newton Road and the south entrance to Needham Lane at Dry Ridge in neighboring Grant County, state police said.

State police earlier Friday that it would likely be two or three days before the roads reopened, but they said in an update at about 7 p.m. Friday that the roads were open.

Nunn said there were no injuries in the Norfolk Southern derailment.

The rail company is working to prevent further backups while clearing the derailment in Scott County, Nunn said.

Nunn thanked the Scott County Fire Department, noting firefighters are working in frigid temperatures to make sure residents are safe.

“That kind of dedication doesn’t go unnoticed; we’re all grateful for it,” he said.
