A teen died from a single-car crash in Georgetown after he collided into a tree and his vehicle caught fire.

Around midnight Sunday, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to Newtown Pike between US 460 and Old Oxford Road for an injury collision.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Infiniti was traveling in the Northbound lane on Newtown Pike when the car left the roadway to the right side and hit a tree. The vehicle caught fire, according to local law enforcement.

Police said they don’t know what caused the car to exit the roadway.

The driver was a 16-year-old male, according to Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton.

Sutton said the name would not be released because the victim is a teen, and the investigation is ongoing. The body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
