‘Unimaginable loss.’ Lexington shooting victim was 15-year-old Lafayette student.
A 15-year-old died after he was shot late Monday night in a Lexington apartment.
Antwan Roberts, 15, died early Tuesday, according to the Fayette County coroner. Lexington police confirmed Tuesday that he died of gunshot wounds.
About 11:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a shots-fired call on the 1300 block of Nancy Hanks Road, near the corner of Red Mile Road, according to police. Officers found Roberts and took him to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, where he died just after midnight.
Lexington police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Roberts was a sophomore at Lafayette High School. In an email to students and their families Tuesday afternoon, Principal Bryne Jacobs described Roberts as a “kind and loving friend to everyone,” who was “full of promise and will be deeply missed. Our hearts and prayers are with his family in the face of such an unimaginable loss.”
Jacobs said counselors were on site Tuesday and will continue to be available “as long as our students need the extra support.”
“Please talk with your teens at home about their feelings and do not be afraid to share your feelings, too,” Jacobs told parents.
Monday’s incident follows a spate of at least six shootings in Lexington overnight on Sunday.
