Victim in deadly shooting near Transylvania has been identified as a Lexington man

A man who died after being shot near Transylvania University Friday afternoon has been identified.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office on Saturday identified the victim as Larry Steven Rose Jr., 44, of Lexington.

Rose was pronounced dead as a result of gunshot wounds at 3:50 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the coroner’s office.

He was found on the 400 block of Smith Street after police responded to a call regarding gunshots in the area at about 3:15 p.m., police said.

Rose’s death is being investigated as a homicide, the coroner said.

Transylvania University issued a campus safety alert after the report of shots fired.
