Charity foundation to pay KY officer’s mortgage on 2nd anniversary of his death

On the two-year anniversary of his death, former Pikeville police officer Scotty Hamilton’s family will be able to get rid of a financial burden.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced Thursday it will pay off Hamilton’s mortgage to help Chelsi Hamilton, Scotty’s wife.

Hamilton, 35, was killed while on duty on March 13, 2018. He was on a patrol call with Kentucky State Police when he was shot by John Russell Hall, as the Herald-Leader previously reported. He pleaded guilty to the murder.

Chelsi Hamilton said in a statement that she has had to balance work and raising daughter Brynlee, but she’ll now be able to focus more time on parenting.

“Thanks to this foundation, I can now work part time and focus more on being a mother to Brynlee; I can now focus on honoring Scotty’s memory by being a better mother,” she said.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation looks to honor the New York firefighter it was named after, as Siller died on duty on Sept. 11, 2001.

“ For twelve years, [Hamilton] went to work every day and put his life on the line in order to protect his community - and tragically, he paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO Frank Siller said in a statement. “It is an honor to be able to tell his wife that she will never have to worry about another mortgage payment. That burden is off her shoulders forever.”
