2 dead after man commits murder-suicide outside a Lexington gas station, police say
The shooting outside a Lexington gas station Tuesday afternoon has been ruled a murder-suicide after both people involved died, police said.
Angel D. Marcum, 26, and Antoine James, 54, died Tuesday after James shot Marcum and then turned the gun on himself, police said.
The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. at the Thorntons gas station located at the corner of North Broadway and West Loudon Avenue. Police said Marcum and James were inside an SUV when the shots were fired. A Lexington officer was in the gas station buying a drink when he was alerted to a man and woman arguing outside, Sgt. Donnell Gordon said Wednesday.
The officer on scene tried to get the man to put the gun down, Gordon said. No other shots were fired, and no one else was hurt in the shooting, police said Wednesday.
James and Marcum were both taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.
