Police identify Kentucky man found dead near cemetery. Suspect charged with murder

Kentucky State Police have charged a Trigg County man with murder after human remains were found at a cemetery last week.

Montie E. Streeval, a 31-year-old Cadiz resident, was charged with the murder of Cameron M. Phillips, a 25-year-old Powderly resident, police said. Phillips was originally found Thursday with no identification, police said. Police said they spoke with Streeval Monday morning before they arrested him.

Phillips died from being shot in the head, according to a preliminary autopsy report. His remains were found in a wood line beside a cemetery on Old Rocky Point Road near Cadiz, police said. To help identify Phillips, state police released photos of a blue Reebok T-shirt, black AND1 shoes, two bracelets and what was believed to be a necklace that were found with the remains.

Streeval was booked in the Christian County Jail, police said. In addition to murder, he was also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. His bail was set at $1 million, according to court records. His arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday morning.

In 2011, Streeval pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and second-degree burglary.
