Lexington police are investigating a shooting in downtown Lexington that injured at least one person.

The shooting occurred on Main Street, near the Lexington Public Library and the Lexington police headquarters, at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday, police said. Police told WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, that 20-25 shots were heard.

Multiple parked vehicles were also damaged due to gunfire, police said.

Responding officers saw a car fleeing and it later wrecked on Mill Street, near Maxwell Avenue, police said.

Police said a man inside the wrecked car had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital.

Officers found shell casings at the scene, some in front of Main Street restaurant Alfalfa and some near the library, police said.

The latest shooting is the third shooting around Main Street and nearby Mill Street in downtown Lexington since June. Police said any shooting is concerning, but they do not believe the three incidents are related.
