Updated: Suspect in August shooting charged with murder after police chase, vehicle crash

A man wanted in an August fatal shooting was arrested after he tried to flee from Lexington police and crashed into another vehicle at Fifth Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard on Wednesday, police said.

Codie Calderon, 29, was arrested and charged with murder and multiple other charges that appeared to be tied to the attempt to flee.

After noon on Wednesday, officers saw Calderon in a dark SUV and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, struck another vehicle, then Calderon ran, police said.

He was later located in the 200 block of Fifth Street and taken into custody. The driver of the other vehicle was reported to have minor injuries, police said.

Police said Calderon was a suspect in an Aug. 13 shooting on Ohio Street in which a 27-year-old man was killed. Cameron Martin was found with gunshot wounds and later died. Police said they received a report of shots fired after people were arguing in the road.
