The Fayette County coroner’s office has released the name of a man found shot in an apartment on Main Street in Lexington early Friday.

Jesse Jimenez, 32, was found dead as the result of a gunshot wound at 721 West Main Street. He was pronounced dead at 4:24 a.m., the coroner’s office said.

Lexington police said in a news release that they initially responded to a call about shots fired in the area around Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way at 2:42 a.m. Friday, but they didn’t find anything unusual.

At 2:48 a.m., a man showed up at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, Lexington police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. When police learned that that man was in the 700 block of West Main Street when he was injured, they went back to investigate further and found the man later identified as Jimenez dead in apartment on the upper level of a building that is occupied on the lower level by a web design and marketing agency.

It was Lexington’s 32nd homicide of 2021.
