Updated: Man, 19, charged with murder in fatal Lexington shooting

A man was killed after he was shot early Friday morning, and Lexington police said they have charged a 19-year-old with murder.

The shooting happened on Pine Street near South Limestone around 12:30 a.m., according to Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department. When officers arrived they found a man in the road with a gunshot wound.

The man’s injuries were originally described as life-threatening, according to Anderson. He was sent to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m., according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Clinton Brown of Versailles, according to the coroner’s office. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

Police said Friday night they had arrested Jamierion Allen, 19, with the help of Kentucky State Police, charging him with murder. Allen was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.

A warrant for Allen’s arrest indicated that he was identified on surveillance footage. The video showed Allen aggressively approach Brown with a hand on his gun and shoot him twice after an altercation.

“Based on the exceptional quality of the video, and how close the subject was to the camera, investigators were able to identify the shooter as Jamierion Allen,” investigators wrote in an arrest warrant for Allen.

Allen’s phone records also placed him at the scene, his arrest warrant says.

The shooting was preceded by a disorder between multiple people, Anderson said. Brown punched Allen prior to the shooting, according to court documents.

Police said earlier Friday that they were still working to determine who was involved in the disorder and shooting.

The fatal shooting marks the seventh homicide in Lexington of 2023.
