The Lexington Police Department arrested a man Tuesday, charging him in connection to a shooting on Glen Arvin Avenue last week.

Javonte Briscoe, 32, is charged with first-degree assault, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, police said in a news release.

The shooting, reported at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, left a 38-year-old man with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Briscoe was being held Tuesday in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Excluding homicides, there have been 42 shootings in Lexington so far this year, according to the police department’s website. There had been 56 by this point in 2023.
