Lexington police investigate Saturday shooting. Coroner identifies victim

The Lexington Police Department is investigating the city’s 14th homicide of the year following a shooting Saturday night on East Fifth Street.

Police were dispatched to the block of 400 East Fifth Street around 11 p.m. Saturday for a shooting, according to police. At the scene they found a victim with a gunshot wound who later died at a local hospital.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Dion Jermaine Higgins, of Lexington, according to the Fayette County coroner.

Police did not release any suspect information.

This is the city’s 14th recorded homicide this year. The last homicide took place Oct. 3.
