Kentucky sheriff gets probation for 2 DUI cases in past year
A Kentucky sheriff on Wednesday received two years of probation for two separate DUI cases that happened in the past year.
Terry Gray, 47, sheriff of Robertson County, entered Alford pleas in both cases. An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict if the case proceeds.
Robertson had faced up to 90 days in jail.
Gray must not commit any new offenses and enroll in a complete inpatient rehabilitation program for alcohol, per terms of his probation, according to court documents. TV station LEX18 reported that Gray is in a rehab facility.
He must also pay $803 in fines and court costs in each case, according to court documents.
Gray overturned a tractor and acted erratically during his most recent DUI arrest in August, according to his arrest citation. Gray got the tractor back upright and then was arrested after a traffic stop on Main Street in Mount Olivet.
Gray’s first DUI arrest happened in December. Court documents said Gray drove his official marked cruiser while intoxicated and got into an argument with a Robertson County Schools employee.
Gray is still listed as the sheriff on Robertson County’s website. He was appointed sheriff in 2021 and was reelected the following year.
County officials could not immediately be reached Thursday morning.
