Man shot dead in Lexington in city’s second homicide of the weekend has been identified

A man died after being shot on Versailles Road Sunday night, marking Lexington’s second homicide in two days.

Quaynell King, 44, of Lexington, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, the Fayette County coroner’s office said Monday morning.

The Lexington Police Department was called to the 1800 block of Versailles Road regarding shots fired at about 8:44 p.m., police said in a news release.

Soon after, the man showed up at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The coroner said King was pronounced dead in the emergency department at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital at 9:20 p.m.

Another fatal shooting happened Saturday night on the 1000 block of Chinoe Road, when a man later identified as Gregory Williams, 35, of Warren, Mich., was found with a gunshot wound. He later died at a hospital.

Lexington police have not released information about suspects or what led up to either shooting.

As of Dec. 1, 20 people have died by homicide in Lexington this year, according to the Lexington Police Department’s website. That’s down from 22 at the same point in 2023.
