Lexington police searching for suspect in fatal shooting on Newtown Pike
The Lexington Police Department has identified a suspect in the city’s latest homicide.
Shawn Blanks, 54, is wanted for murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Police said the warrant is connected to a homicide that occurred on Newtown Pike the day after Christmas.
Detectives used the real-time intelligence center and Fusus cameras to identify Blanks, according to police. He is described as 5-foot-11 and about 152 pounds.
Blanks was featured as Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ most wanted person of the week.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. outside of a laundromat in the 400 block of Newtown Pike. Police said 62-year-old Maurice Elliott was shot and later died at a hospital.
It was the city’s 21st and final homicide of 2024, according to police data. The 21 homicides were three fewer than the total from the previous year.
