Man wanted for fatal shooting outside Lexington laundromat has been arrested

A man wanted in connection with the city’s last homicide of 2024 was arrested Tuesday, the Lexington Police Department said.

Shawn Blanks, 54, has been charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection with the death of Maurice Elliott, police said in a news release.

Elliott, 63, was shot just before 2 p.m. Dec. 26 outside a laundry on the 400 block of Newtown Pike. He later died at a hospital.

Blanks was featured Jan. 15 as the most wanted person of the week for Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. He was being held Tuesday night at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Elliott’s death marked the 21st homicide of the year in Fayette County.
