Suspect from Lexington’s first homicide of 2025 arrested in Louisville

An arrest has been made in Lexington’s first homicide of the year.

Crista Moreno, 36, was arrested Monday in Louisville by the Louisville Metro Police Department. Lexington police officials said she awaiting extradition back to Fayette County, where she will face a murder charge for the death of 27-year-old Helen Taylor.

The shooting happened on Jan. 16 at the Sportsman Motel on Winchester Road, police previously said. Taylor, of Lexington, was found dead with a gunshot wound.

Moreno was identified as the suspect a few weeks later. She was previously featured as the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ most wanted person of the week.

“The Lexington Police Department would like to thank the Louisville Metro Police Department and the US Marshals Service for their assistance in helping locate and arrest Crista Moreno,” police said.

The fatal shooting was the city’s first of the year, according to Lexington police crime data.

As of Tuesday morning the city has recorded two in 2025.
