Man charged in Lexington killing. Court documents indicate 2 shooters involved

A man has been charged in a Lexington homicide that court documents indicate involved two shooters.

Darrion Saliford, 22, was charged with complicity to murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in the Jan. 19 killing of Daievyon Elliott.

Elliott was shot in the back parking lot of a residence on Fairmont Court. He was shot on both sides of his body, and officials said they found two kinds of shell casings at the scene.

Saliford’s arrest warrant says Saliford and another man were in the area of the shooting when it happened. Mapping of Saliford’s electronic monitoring data shows him in the parking lot where Elliott was found shot two minutes before the shooting was reported to police.

Two witnesses were in the vehicle with Elliott at the time. Court documents say Saliford, the other man and the witnesses met before the homicide, and one of the witnesses and the other man were in communication before and after the shooting.

The other man told authorities he and Saliford were together in the area of the shooting. Court documents say surveillance footage shows the suspects’ vehicle arriving before the shooting and fleeing afterward.

The shell casings found at the scene were 9-millimeter and .45-caliber, according to court documents.

Saliford was arrested in Louisville one day after the shooting for failure to appear in court on a different charge, according to jail records. On Monday, he was charged in the homicide.

He was also on probation for other convictions — criminal attempt of tampering with physical evidence, bail jumping and three misdemeanors — when the Lexington homicide happened.

That probation began in June 2023 and was scheduled to last about three years.

Saliford is being held at the Fayette County jail on a $750,000 bond for the murder case, according to court records. He also has a $50,000 bond for the terroristic threatening case.

A second accused shooter has not been charged, according to court documents.

How criminal charges work

Suspects are charged by law enforcement based on initial allegations and evidence that have not yet been proven in court or through jury trial.

The fatal shooting was the second reported homicide in Lexington this year, according to police data. Both homicide cases feature an arrest.
