Lexington murder suspect accused of stabbing, slashing other inmate 11 times
A Lexington murder suspect allegedly stabbed another inmate many times while incarcerated at the Fayette County Detention Center, according to court documents.
Phillip McElroy, 32, has been held at the Fayette County jail on a murder charge since March 14. He is one of two suspects charged with the death of 24-year-old Tai’ Maricus Warner, who died at the scene of the shooting on the 400 block of Ohio Street on March 11.
On Tuesday, McElroy used an “improvised edged weapon” to stab/slash Mudanar Turley, 26, in a shared room, according to court documents. Turley was found with eight injures and required stitches.
McElroy was charged with first-degree assault for the attack, according to court records. He is to be arraigned on the charge Thursday afternoon.
Turley has been incarcerated at the Fayette County jail since Feb. 21 on a possession of marijuana charge, according to jail records. His next scheduled court appearance is Friday for a pretrial conference.
McElroy’s murder charge was sent to a grand jury after a preliminary hearing on April 7 to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
During the hearing, Lexington Police Department Detective Corey Sutton testified that McElroy was identified through the footage because of face and neck tattoos that matched previous arrest records.
Court records show McElroy’s bond is $750,000 for the murder charge and $100,000 for the assault charge.
