An inmate from Lexington who escaped custody by posing as his brother has been captured.

Jeffrey Harrison, 43, had been on the run since May 30 after escaping from the Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville. He was arrested Wednesday by Kentucky State Police and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, according to jail records.

“We want to thank everyone who shared information and sent in tips,” state police trooper Justin Kearney said in a Facebook post. “Your help played a big role in bringing this to a safe resolution.”

State police previously said Harrison was “inadvertently released after falsely identifying himself as his brother, who was scheduled for release.” His escape wasn’t discovered until later in the day, when jail staff conducted roll call.

Harrison was serving time for a conviction of first-degree promoting contraband. He is also being held on two counts of failing to appear for court cases in Estill County, according to jail records.
