Details are still emerging about the man killed by police Sunday, July 13 following a shooting spree in Lexington that left three dead, including the shooter, and three injured.
The man, publicly identified Monday, July 14 as Guy House, 47, first shot a Kentucky State Police trooper near Blue Grass Airport Sunday afternoon before fleeing to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he shot four others, killing two women.
House has a long criminal history that includes drugs and weapons, and was set to appear Monday for a hearing related to a domestic violence charge.
Here’s what we know about the timeline of events Sunday.
Just before 11:30 a.m. July 13: Trooper shot near Lexington’s airport
At about 11:36 a.m., Lexington Police Officers are dispatched to a shooting involving a Kentucky State Police trooper on Terminal Drive, according to a LPD news release.
The Kentucky State Police trooper is shot while attempting to conduct a traffic stop on Terminal Drive, just outside of Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport. Other occupants were in the vehicle, but “were not involved” in the assault on the trooper, KSP reported at a Monday afternoon news conference.
The shooter, later identified by the coroner as House, flees the scene.
The state trooper, whose name hasn’t yet been released Monday morning, survived the shooting but was seriously injured. They were reportedly stable as of Sunday afternoon.
A short time later: Shooter flees, carjacks new vehicle
After fleeing the scene at Terminal Drive, House went to Belleau Wood Drive and carjacked a vehicle there.
Additional information about the carjacking was not immediately available.
House had a long criminal history, including for auto theft. He was first convicted in 1999, when he pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and two counts of theft. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, court records show.
In February 2023, House was put on two years of probation by Fayette Circuit Judge Julie Goodman after agreeing to plea deals in four other criminal cases. The charges included theft of mail matter, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing/evading police, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, auto theft and first-degree criminal mischief.
In 2024, House tested positive for drugs multiple times, violating his probation. That led to an order to revoke his probation and a warrant for his arrest, both of which were filed in November of 2024.
Approximately 12:30 p.m.: Shooter arrives at Richmond Road Baptist Church
House’s next destination was Richmond Road Baptist Church, located in the 5800 block of Old Richmond Road. There, he reportedly planned to search for the mother of his children.
At the church, he shot four people, killing two women. The women have been identified as 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and 34-year-old Christina Combs. Two other men were also shot, with both listed in critical condition, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said in a news conference Monday.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn described the church as small with several members related or longtime friends.
The church offers lunch and fellowship services at 12:30 p.m. Sundays, according to a schedule on its website.
There were no signs of violence at the church as Pastor Jerry Gumm, one of the two men shot, gave his Sunday sermon, but a stream of the sermon on Facebook does not include the entire 11 a.m. service.
According to a Herald-Leader interview with parishioners, Gumm and her daughter, Star Rutherford, were cooking lunch in the church’s basement when House entered through a back door and asked for one of Rutherford’s sisters.
When they told House she was not there, he responded: “Well, someone is gonna have to die, then,” and opened fire on the women. Gumm was shot in the chest and killed.
House then went outside and shot and killed another of Rutherford’s sisters, Combs.
12:56 p.m.: Coroner called to Richmond Road Baptist Church
Police responded to the shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church and later reported House had been shot and killed.
Records indicate Fayette County coroner Gary Ginn was called to the church just before 1 p.m. Sunday.
