Man found shot dead in west Lexington home. Killing marks city’s 13th of the year

A man found with a gunshot wound at a home in Lexington Tuesday afternoon was pronounced dead at the scene, and police say they are investigating the case as a homicide.

The Lexington Police Department found the man after being called to a residence on the 1800 block of Darien Drive at about 1:25 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive person, police said in a news release.

Darien Drive runs off Lane Allen Road in west Lexington. That block is near the intersection of Traveller Road.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Dean Dalrymple, 60. He was pronounced dead at 2:29 p.m.

“Anyone in the area is asked to check their surveillance cameras and contact Lexington Police if they have footage that can help with the investigation,” police said in the release.

The shooting death is the thirteenth homicide in Lexington this year.

On Sunday, a gunman who was later killed by police shot and killed two women at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington. He also injured two other people in the shooting at the church and had shot and injured a Kentucky State Police trooper earlier.

Before that, there had been 10 other homicides in Lexington in 2025, the most recent a stabbing on Douglas Avenue June 12.
