Coroner identifies 2 people killed outside Lexington library

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified two men shot and killed outside a Lexington library over the weekend.

Edward Parker, 52, and Ashim Heanacho, 71, were pronounced dead early Saturday at 1733 Russell Cave Road, the Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library, according to the coroner’s office. Both men were from Lexington and died of gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. Saturday. Deborah Weiss, 69, was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of murder, Lexington police said.

Weiss’ arrest citation says she admitted to shooting Parker and Heanacho. She is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.

Weiss had not previously been charged with a felony or misdemeanor in Kentucky, according to court records. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Fayette District Court Monday afternoon.

The fatal shooting marked the city’s 14th and 15th homicides of the year. There had been eight homicides in Lexington at the same point in 2024 and 13 by the same point in 2023, according to police data.
