A 17-year-old is accused of driving under the influence and causing a collision that injured three people in Lexington, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The collision happened about 11 p.m. Saturday on Nicholasville Road near Canary Road. Police said the teenager was driving one of three vehicles involved in the crash that sent three people to a hospital.

The teenage driver had just fled a non-injury, hit-and-run collision near Waller Avenue and Nicholasville Road before the injury crash, according to police. The teenager is charged with DUI, first-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

The police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash, and anyone with information about it is asked to call police at 859-258-3600.

There were two other separate fatal crashes involving alcohol in Lexington earlier this month.

On Aug. 3, 75-year-old Linda Johnson died at a hospital after being involved in a collision near Man o’ War Boulevard. The other driver involved, 65-year-old Stephen Barber, was charged with DUI.

Two days later, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car near Liberty Road and Liberty Hill Drive. Bryce Daniel, 35, was arrested at the scene and was charged with DUI.
