Teen charged in Lexington shooting that left man seriously injured

A 17-year-old has been charged with a recent shooting in Lexington that left a man seriously injured.

The shooting happened around 6:35 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Ascot Park, near Armstrong Mill Road. Lexington police said a man was shot and taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives identified the suspect as a 17-year-old juvenile. Police said the juvenile was charged Tuesday with first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a minor.

As of Sept. 20, there have been 36 non-fatal shootings in Lexington this year, according to Lexington police data. Last year, on Sept. 20, there had been 52 non-fatal shootings.

There have been 17 homicides this year, the most recent in September on East Seventh Street.
