Coroner identifies man shot, killed near Lexington schools campus

The man shot and killed last week near a Lexington school campus has been identified as 36-year-old man from Detroit.

Derrico Wallace Jr. was shot around 2:50 p.m. Nov. 7 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Centre Parkway, near the Tates Creek schools campus. He died at a hospital.

The shooting prompted a “heightened alert status” at Tates Creek schools, the second time in four days shooting led to such a status.

The Lexington Police Department said late Friday officers used the Real-Time Intelligence Center to help identify and find the suspect’s vehicle soon after the shooting.

Erick Morgan, 36, was arrested and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and felon in possession of a firearm.

Morgan’s bond was set at $1 million. He is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center, according to online jail records.
